What makes our hardcover ideal?
With our hardcover book being larger in size than our board book, teachers and parents will have an easier time sharing our story with an audience. Our hardcover is ideal for the young independent reader, particularly the mid-level first grade reader. Teachers can also use our hardcover as a tool to introduce new compound words and challenging sentences that rhyme.

Written for early childhood development
Our bedtime book, It’s Time for Bed Sweet Child of Mine, was written with early childhood development in mind, focusing on tempo, rhythm, and rhyming to increase readability and help lay the foundations for early language and cognitive development. Unique rhyming word-play aids the development of crucial muscles involved in speech, while memorization practice encourages stimulation of the brain power needed at higher reading levels.
The importance of rhyming
Nursery rhymes play a pivotal part in helping children develop an ear for language and encourage literacy development. When children hear nursery rhymes it helps them become aware of the sounds that vowels and consonants make. The reciting and learning of these nursery rhymes helps children gain a sensitivity to the sound structure of language and contributes to their phonemic awareness. By naturally acquiring sound sensitivity to vowels and consonants, language structure is intuitively understood by children and fosters the foundation for their ability to read independently.

Optimized for children with color deficiency
Dark outlined shapes
We use a black outline to define our shapes for characters and backgrounds. This helps children with visual impairments distinguish the characters from the background and other objects.
High contrast
We use high contrast between foreground and background for the text for optimal readability.
Vibrant colors
We also use a variety of vibrant colors to make the visuals engaging for young children!
Color blindness comparison
This example of our cover shows the usage of color and contrast to make our book accessible for children with different types of color blindness. This example shows monochromacy, protanopia and deuteranopia.

Dedicated to being inclusive
At Wunderstar Kids we are committed to being inclusive in a multitude of ways. We use many techniques to optimize our books for color blind children so the reading experience is inclusive for different types of eyesight. Our books are also gender inclusive featuring gender neutral main characters and characters that are both male and female. We believe it’s important for children of all genders to be able to connect with our books. Whether your child identifies as a boy, a girl, or gender neutral, we want them to see themselves in our stories and be able to identify with our books.
